St Martins Charity Shop is open: Monday to Friday : 9am – 4pm
The church congregation had a major task to fundraise during the 1990’s in order to make our contribution to the grant which we had been awarded from Heritage Lottery Fund towards the refurbishment of the church building. Many events were held one being a good as new sale of clothes in the church hall at our summer fair in 2000.
We were overwhelmed with the support we received and despite selling many items we still had plenty left.
In September 2000 in the empty shop on Manchester Road next door to the old post office, thanks to the generosity of the landlord St Martins Church opened a shop to sell the remainder of the items. At the time it was only for 3 months.
We soon became aware there was a great need for a charity shop and negotiated a lease in January 2001 and St Martins Charity Shop was up and running thanks to a lot of help from parishioners to make it possible.
Over the years we made several improvements inside the shop and in September 2012 we realized that we needed to move to bigger premises and in December that year opened our new shop at 831 Manchester Road. The shop is situated at the top of Station Approach on Manchester Road, it is much bigger, brighter and we can offer more goods for sale.
We offer Ladies, Men’s, Children’s Clothing and Shoes, Bedding, Curtains and Soft Furnishings together with Bric a Brac and Books. Our prices are probably the lowest in the area and we supply other charitable organisations with some of the goods which are not sold when we change our stock.
The shop is run entirely by volunteers, working 9am – 12.30pm or 12.30pm – 4pm.
Donations can be made during opening hours but the shop does not accept any electrical goods or items of furniture.
We are unable to offer a collection service.
If you would like to become a volunteer please get in touch with us.
